Some of the things that prevent me from healthy eating are I start my day by picking up my grandbabies; taking the 7 year-old to school and the 2 & 3 year olds to child care. Then the commute to the valley to get to work for the past 7 to 10 years is slow & that seems to drain my energy, so I stop and get a cup of coffee. Once I get to work I consume myself with the daily duties. And for the past 2 years the current co-workers have been constantly interrupting me to help them with their work. The accountant was in the past week to perform the outside audit and saw first-hand the constant interrupts I get while trying to process my work. He made a comment about, how can I get my work done and that I need an assistant. I replied I’ve been saying that for a while, so don’t waste your time. What I need is to retire after 23 years, or at least from this job.
I’ve found that being constantly interrupted from my work and making decisions for other people’s work, I usually don’t take a break and end up going out to lunch from between 1:30pm to 2:00pm. And because my company is located in no man’s land I usually go to the nearest fast food place and I know that’s bad; especially since I’ve allowed myself to get a little angry about the interruptions from people who can’t perform their job duties. So I end up getting the wrong types of fast food for lunch. After the long drive home from work, I usually flop on the couch and watch my grandbabies at play. I usually have a nutritious meal for dinner, because I live next door to one of my sister’s [who’s a granny to my grandbabies, just as she is a mom to my daughters], who does most of the cooking for all of us. But, when I’m really upset about the things at work, I resort to eating fattening comfort foods, especially desserts.
Exercise for me is seldom. I make a schedule to exercise and always something comes along and I allow it to take president over my exercise schedule. The last schedule I started was in February, for 2 days out of a week. After a week I had a hard time walking, I had to wear braces on both knees, but I keep going until mid April. The instructor’s pace was not for seniors. That exercise program was far above my abilities. The reason I chose an exercise program is because when I have to report to someone, I seem to do a better job of exercising. But, I know that I should not stop exercising; and I have lousy excuses, since my sister has about four different pieces of exercise equipment that I can use. I always seem to be too tired to use them; I start on one piece for about 3 to 5 minutes and say that’s enough for me.
You are such an amazing woman to do what you do everyday. One thing that I would stop right away and that is doing the work for other people that refuse to stand up and do their own work. I was in a similar situation and I had to take them aside and say if I'm not able to do my job then you will not get paid on time. If that is okay with you then I will continue doing your job instead of doing my own work. I would help them but come up with a plan for them to help themselves. I think that co-workers can handle their tasks. If they can pull you on a daily basis to for you to help them who wouldn't do it. I would. They sound like they may be taking advantage.
